All communication must be in English. This includes translated transcripts with the appropriate number/letter grades. Applicants must meet the requirements of Immigration Canada and obtain a student visa.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants whose first language is not English must supply proof of English language proficiency at a satisfactory level. We will accept English Proficiency Scores from the following tests:

  • TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language
  • IELTS - International English Language Testing Service
  • MELAB - Michigan English Language Assessment Battery
  • CAEL - Canadian Academic English Language Assessment

Applicants are exempt from providing us with proof of English language proficiency if any of the following applies:

  • The applicant has completed four (4) years of full-time education in English at an accredited school or institution where English is the primary language of instruction, OR
  • The applicant has spent more than four (4) years in an English-speaking country.

Please submit test scores OR documentation supporting your exemption along with your application.

Academic Credentials

Harris Institute accepts international credentials that are equivalent to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Contact the Registrar if you are not sure your credentials are equivalent at

Study Permits

Once a complete application is received, an invitation to interview will follow. (Upon request, we can accommodate applicants who are out of the country with a telephone interview.) Once we have established that you are eligible for acceptance, a letter will be issued with a schedule of tuition fees, start date and program duration; this letter of acceptance conforms to the requirements of Citizenship and Immigration Canada and serves as your proof of acceptance, which will be required for your application for your study permit. Depending on your citizenship or where you live, you may need a temporary resident visa as well as a study permit.
